Will need a lot of practice listening to a variety of different languages.
Also need to review and practice doing the markups quickly while listening. Not that simple to do quickly. I can see how useful the preparation process is and the importance of anticipating common errors.
Yes, absolutely. Don’t feel that you have to do everything perfectly before you begin seeing students. Being able to transcribe is for your benefit so that you can quickly and easily describe what you hear.
I believe it’s super helpful learning the patterns in each language. That section Jane has on characteristics of each accent is super helpful. From my experience people who speak the same L1 often make the same or very similar mistakes. If we know the patterns we’ll know what to listen for.
