Thank you for saying “get rid of short and long sounds”. This was how I learned my vowels in the 1960’s. It has been fascinating to discover how English sounds were defined in the IPA in the last 30 years. With this more practical approach to teaching/learning American English sounds, it surely is amazing to analyze my own sound production and define it in these terms.
