After compiling the errors, I’d prioritize all the areas where the problems are the most frequent.
I believe that any errors in vowels/diphthongs /consonants relative to the target sound sheet should be covered first as they are the building blocks. I think it’s vital to fist correct errors at the basic syllabic level – sound and stress.
Then I’d move to sentence stress and linking problems, providing drilling exercises with me as model. I’d explain the rules that guide correct stress patterns. I’d give some model sentences with these difficult words, using the whiteboard to emphasize correct stress patterns. I’d begin to address any language problems at this stage. Then I’d work on intonation with a series of sentences in context once individual stress and linking problems have been greatly reduced.
With each successive lesson, I’d set up the student with a quick review of the last lesson and build confidence at the start of each subsequent lesson. Praising good language practice is key to progress.
